Privacy & email preferences
This website is operated for author Russ Duker. Questions about your information can be sent to russduker@gmail.com.
What you choose to share
Forms collect the name, email address, message, product interest, or review you enter. Submitting the newsletter form records your request to receive occasional book news. Contacting Russ or submitting a review does not automatically subscribe you unless you select the optional updates box.
Contact messages are emailed to Russ and are not retained in the website database. The sender’s name, email address, submission date, and mailing preference are retained so Russ can reply and manage reader permissions. Reviews and product-interest requests are stored for their stated purposes.
Reviews
Only approved reviews and their chosen display names appear publicly. Your email address does not appear with your review. Review submissions request your permission to publish the text and display name.
Changing your mind
Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. You may also withdraw a review or request correction or deletion of your information by emailing russduker@gmail.com from the address you used. An availability request is separate from consent to a continuing mailing list.
Site operation
The site uses hosting infrastructure to serve pages and store submissions. A hashed connection identifier and submission time are used to limit repeated requests. The site does not add advertising trackers. Essential hosting or sign-in features may use cookies.
Newsletter measurement
Published newsletter pages use the site’s first-party page counter. Newsletter emails also contain a tiny first-party image that can record an estimated open using a pseudonymous recipient code, the newsletter identifier, and the opening time. The open record does not contain the subscriber’s email address. Some email services preload images while others block them, so these figures are approximate and cannot prove that a particular person read the message.
Password access
The private manuscript and author desk use essential, secure cookies to remember an unlocked session. The site stores password hashes, hashed session tokens, and expiry times. A short-lived hashed connection identifier limits repeated password attempts. Admin sessions are linked to the verified author account. Resetting a password ends existing sessions for that area.
Private publisher review
Publisher invitations and acceptance records are separate from the general page counter. For this review process, the site stores the invited name, email, organization, expiration and revocation times; the reviewer’s typed name and role; the exact accepted agreement and manuscript edition; UTC acceptance time; and the connection IP address and browser information supplied by hosting. IP addresses may identify a proxy, VPN, shared network, or hosting intermediary. They do not establish exact location or identity. Email ownership and organizational authority are not independently verified by the site.
Essential cookies maintain invitation sessions. Review records are restricted to the author and authorized service providers and may be used to administer access, document agreement, investigate misuse, or establish or defend legal claims. Records may be shared with legal advisers or when law requires, and retained while reasonably needed for these purposes and legal obligations. You can save an acceptance receipt after agreeing. Contact Russ to request access, correction, or deletion, subject to lawful retention needs. Accepting manuscript review terms does not subscribe you to a newsletter.
Page visits
A first-party counter records the page path, date, and aggregate number of views so Russ can see which pages readers use. It does not store names, email addresses, IP addresses, visitor identifiers, referrers, or URL query strings. It uses no analytics cookies and does not send these counts to an advertising or analytics service. Repeat visits count again. Known bots, signed-in author visits, and browsers requesting Do Not Track are excluded where detected. These counts are visible only in the author desk.
Reader accounts
Reader accounts store your first name, email address, a protected password hash, and email-verification status. Essential secure cookies keep you signed in. Reading progress, bookmarks, and personal notes are stored with your account so you can use them across devices. Personal account notes are visible only through your reader account and are not shown in the author desk. Manuscript-review notes submitted through an invitation or shared manuscript password remain available to Russ for editing. Verification and password-recovery emails are sent through our email service. A free reader account does not subscribe you to newsletters.
Orders
No payment information is collected by these forms. The T-shirt shop uses Shopify checkout, where its privacy, payment, shipping, and return terms apply. Book preorders are not yet open.
